Effectiveness of Differin

So we’ve told you about Accutane and the dangers with the drug, well this product is really not much different accept that you don’t eat it. The same makers of Accutane made it but instead of eating it you apply it directly onto the affected areas of the skin. Doesn’t sound so bad or dangerous right? Wrong! The skin is incredibly absorbent of these types of chemicals and agents, and so it goes straight into your blood stream, similar to the way medical patches work like nicotine. Differin has almost all the same effects of Accutane.

The main active ingredient of Differin is  vitamin A derivative known as retinoid. Differin also contains the abrasive chemical sodium hydroxide which erodes the skin when it is applied.  It is this erosion that burns away or peels the top layer of the skin, including the acne.  Now, considering that a course of acne treatment with Differin takes 2 – 3 months, it is not hard to imagine the amount of skin that will have been peeled off by then. But, this apart, even when the acne breakout has been subdued, Differin must continue to be applied for preventive purposes.  This means that the erosion of the skin is maintained besides other dangers.

Unfortunately, even while Differin may have some positive results against acne, because it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem, a user must keep using it even after an acne breakout has cleared in order to prevent new breakouts. This extended use of the medication may be responsible to most of the side effects associated with Differing.

Side effects:

The dangers of using Differin include: swelling of the skin, reddening and scaly skin, burning or stinging feeling, hives and sometimes even difficulty in breathing.  These may appear in either mild or serious forms depending on the individual.  Differing also poses danger to a fetus growing in the uterus of a woman user.

20% of all users experience itchiness, while others experience other side effects among them:

  • Ÿ  Skin irritation
  • Ÿ  Erythema or reddening of skin
  • Ÿ  Scaling dry skin
  • Ÿ  Pruritus which is accompanied by itching
  • Ÿ  Burning
  • Ÿ  Stinging
  • Ÿ  Worsening of the acne
