Acne Medications Are Suppressive

Medications Help Doctors, Not Patients

Did you know that acne medicines are one part of a multi-billion dollar market?  In the United States alone last year, pharmaceutical companies made upwards of $320 billion by selling various medications to consumers.  This profit is forecast to continue rising by at least 5%-7% every year.  What would happen to this lucrative business if everyone taking medications turned to natural remedies?

“People think that the Food & Drug Administration is protecting them – it isn’t.” – Dr. Herbert L. Ley, former Commissioner of the FDA

Pharmaceutical companies don’t exist to make you healthy or to treat the cause of your ailment.  They exist to provide temporary relief for the symptoms of greater problems in your body.  In this way, they make money, because you have to keep going back to get more medicine to reduce your symptoms.  Our current healthcare system is no better.  It relies on scientific findings funded by those same pharmaceutical companies.  Some doctors are even required to sell certain medications to keep their practice funded.

The sad truth is that our system is based more on the dependence of drugs than the prevention of disease.

Acne Medications Are Suppressive

Modern medication, such as acne antibiotics, does not seek to support nature and the body’s natural healing system.  Many medications even intervene in the healing process while “healing” the symptoms, giving the perception that a cure has been reached even while the problem still exists and could be growing worse.

The medical suppression of the symptoms of a disease generally has more side effects than the disease itself causes in the body.  Look at the leaflet or inside panel of any of prescription medicine and you’ll see such side effects as headaches, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting, trouble breathing or walking, and many more, some much worse.

Topical acne medications, such as retinoid and steroid creams, are absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream.  This gives them access to almost every part of your body, not just the skin.  Retin A, one such commonly prescribed cream, has a warning of the potential side effect of causing birth defects in unborn children.

Retin A is not alone in such drastic side effects.  Accutane, another common prescription for severe acne cases, does clear up the skin but at the cost of potential hair loss, liver damage, and even depression leading to suicidal thoughts.

“Doctors give drugs of which they know little, into bodies, of which they know less, for diseases of which they know nothing at all.” -Voltaire

Instead of guiding the patient to better remedies, doctors often breeze over these side effects, claiming it to be a nominal chance.  Worse, to “cure” the side effects of the medicine, many patients are given even more prescriptions, creating a downward spiral to ill health and the suppression of all the body’s normal functions.  Is this really healthier than simply having acne?

More Education Equals Less Medication

Our healthcare system is based on treating the symptoms.  Doctors treat something that has gone wrong – they aren’t working to keep it from happening.  The problem with this approach is that doctors are trained to deal with the sick, not improve or prevent sickness in otherwise healthy people.  While it didn’t always used to be this way, our current healthcare methods make this behavior normal.

This approach is also more profitable for both doctors and pharmaceutical companies.  Many hospitals now receive funding from those who produce the prescriptions.  Bu pushing a certain drug, the doctors are not only bringing repeat business back to themselves but are also driving money into their sponsors’ pockets.

“Unfortunately, we have reached a time where what is best for the patient is no longer the issue.”-Dr. Ronald Drucker

There are many books and resources that go into greater detail about this problem but suffice it to say that neither doctors nor drug companies are working to benefit you.  The only way you are going to get healthy and stay healthy is by educating yourself.  The more you learn about natural approaches to healing your acne, the less medication you will have to take.

The Body Has A Natural Healing Intelligence

The good news is that, if given the proper tools, our bodies have the incredible ability to take care of themselves without any help from medications.  Our systems are intelligent and capable and only need the right ingredients to keep going.  True natural healing methods supply these raw materials rather than hiding away the symptoms through man-made chemicals.  A holistic or natural approach is all about using organic foods and remedies to re-balance the body’s processes and make it healthy.

“One-quarter of what you eat keeps you alive. The other three-quarters keeps your doctor alive.”-Hieroglyph found in an ancient Egyptian tomb.
